Avid Xpress DV3 is a nonlinear digital video-editing program for both PC and Mac computers. It has thousands of what we in the multimedia business like to call “bells and whistles” in it: over a hundred “real time” effects, audio and video editing toolbars, titling and still graphic creation, general importing and exporting abilities, and is compatible with other programs that are usually used with it. The real time effects ability enables a user to, preview, create, mix, effects, titles, and video from multiple sources all at the same time without having to wait for the effects or transitions to “render” (this means rewrite the frames involved from scratch). It works basically right out of the box on computers or “notebooks” that have at least a 750 mhz speed processor, although most people (or companies) will have to install a firewire card so they can transfer the video from their computer to another medium, or visa versa. I would but it in a heart beat f I had the camera and system to go with it… and the money, it cost over a thousand dollars just by itself! But I recommend it to institutions of higher learning such as McMurry because unlike the video software we are using, it is nonliener and would give us a different perspective on digital video edititng.
