With the new Intel Pentium 4 chip now available, experts say the chip will be able to run at speeds of a wopping 2 GHz.  How much faster can these things actually get?  This is Intel’s first new chip arcitechure in five years and initially it will run at 1.4 GHz and up.  “While the new chip will debut only in more costly, high-performance PCs, Otellini said he expects the Pentium 4 to reach all segments of the mainstream PC market by the end of next year. That means users should be able to get their hands on a Pentium 4 system for as little as $1,500 before 2001 is out.”
