In this article in Networkcomputing.com, Steven J. Shuchart Jr. suggests that multiprocessor operating systems are usually better performers that single processor operating systems.  Basically he says to determine what kind of applications will be going on and based on this, make the decision on whether or not to buy a multiprocessor operating system.  Because this would be such a costly decision, it will most likely be beneficial because a business will always keep expanding.
