Research company ABI released a study claiming that Apple's iPhone
is only the precursor of what the future holds on the mobile communication
frontier. The study claims that the mobile communication devices (MID's -
Mobile Internet Devices) of the future will be replacements for the
now ubiquitous notebook or laptop computer. The
study reinforces the application aspect of the devices becoming the most
important, with the software and device package being tailored to specific
users; i.e.: Generation Y Social Networkers, Doctors, and other users found
in more isolate professions. |

Being a proud iPhone user, and an avid proponent of any advances in
mobile technology, I found the article to be refreshing and inspiring.
The iPhone has proven to be a serious mobile computing device with
fantastic capabilities, although I too am looking forward to Gen-2. I think
the the idea to replace the Windows-based platforms with the Linux-based
platform to save battery power (due to Windows' insatiable process-devouring),
is ingenious and promising. I think it's a bit concerning to say that the
future of devices like the OQO is uncertain. Though I believe they fill a niche
market, I do believe they drive the the development and advances in
mobile communication technology. |
